Battle of the Bands: Use Your Voice 2026

On September 30th, in collaboration with Swamp Records and Gator Growl, Flipping the System hosted our fourth annual Battle of The Bands at First Magnitude Brewery. The event hosted four bands: Petty Theft, 5 Undr, Dumpster, and The Noise Next Door. Each of these bands is local to Gainesville, and some even feature students from the University of Florida!

This year’s winner of the Battle of The Bands was Petty Theft, which was formed last fall by six students from UF. As winners, opened for Nikki Glaser at the 2026 Homecoming Gator Growl. Not only is this an amazing opportunity for these musicians, but also for Flipping the System as a whole. Especially in light of recent events at Cornell University, being part of Gator Growl will allow us to reach an even greater part of our campus and local community. Now more than ever, it is so important that UF students know we are here for them to use as a valuable resource.

Other than the music, there was a table set up by Peaceful Paths, our local domestic violence center, to educate attendees about domestic violence prevention and resources. In addition, Flipping the System ambassadors also did tabling to pass out free Narcan, helping to create a safer nightlife environment in Gainesville.

It is safe to say that the battle of the bands was a success. It was such a fun night filled with great music and great people. It was so meaningful to see so many people from the community show up to support a cause so close to our hearts. By the end of the night, we raised $1800 in support of our initiatives to create a safer campus environment and put a stop to sexual violence. We are so grateful for all the donors, performers, and people who helped make this event a success!
